British Cycling Announces 2023 National Road Calendar

British Cycling can today announce the dates and venues for the 2023 National Road Series and National Circuit Series.

Contested over four rounds for men and five rounds for women, the National Road Series kicks off at the ANEXO/CAMS 7th Women’s CiCLE Classic in the East Midlands, with previous winners including Josie Nelson, Abi Smith, Neah Evans and Katie Archibald.

The series then returns to Lincoln for the iconic Rapha Lincoln Grand Prix, for the opening round of the men’s series and second round of the women’s. The 2023 edition will see a new organiser take over the reins of the prestigious race, following the departures of Dan Ellmore and Peter Odam, who have been integral to the running of the race over recent years and bringing the national championships to the city in 2015 and 2021.

Riders will then take to the start line for the Lancaster Grand Prix on Sunday 16 July, before the Ryedale Grasscrete Grand Prix in Yorkshire on Sunday 20 August. Series champions will then be crowned in the North East on Sunday 17 September, with the Beaumont Trophy for men and Curlew Cup for women.

We are continuing to work on securing an additional round for the men's National Road Series and will share further updates in due course. Unfortunately, the Manx International Stage on the Isle of Man will not take place in 2023 due to roadworks taking place on the island, but we look forward to welcoming the race back to the calendar in 2024.

The National Circuit Series for men and women will begin in Otley (Wednesday 28 June), before returning to Ilkley on Friday 30 June following a successful series debut this year. The Sheffield Grand Prix will make a welcome return to the 2023 men’s calendar and will also host a women’s race for the first time in round four, before the men’s series will head to Colne on Tuesday 25 July. Both the men’s and women’s series champions will then be crowned in Newark on Friday 28 July.

As has been the case since 2017, equal prize money will be on offer in both the men’s and women’s road and circuit series, and further details on the location of the 2023 national championships for road, time-trial and circuit races – which will take place from 22-25 June – will be published in due course.

Winner of the 2022 women’s National Road Series for CAMS-Basso Bikes, Sammie Stuart, said:

“It was incredible to win the National Road Series – it felt like cycling complete for me! It’s tough as I work full-time as a firefighter as well so to find the time to train and get to races can be difficult, but it makes it all worth it to get the results.

“The people in the sport and in my team are great and I’m so glad to have found cycling. It was my first year properly racing and it’s been a dream to race with the team in the series. To have all the races put on by British Cycling, it’s just been absolutely fantastic.

“I loved racing Lancaster Grand Prix as that’s like home to me, and it felt amazing to podium there. There’s lots of pressure that comes with wearing the leader’s jersey, but I’d rather go for it and retain it. I’m looking forward to racing in 2023 and to just keep enjoying cycling.”
