The annual Lincoln Grand Prix Cycle races take place in and around the City of Lincoln on Sunday, May 15th 2016. This will be the 61st consecutive staging of the event, one of the most prestigious in the national calendar. The event attracts all of Britain’s top riders and several from abroad and will include Olympic, Commonwealth and World Championships medal winners.

Following the success in hosting the prestigious British Cycling National Road Race and Time Trial Championships in 2015. We will again have both a women's and a men's event. Both events will be held on the the usual Grand Prix Circuit. 

This will mean that full road closures in the City will be earlier than for previous years starting from around 8.30 am and last through the day until 4.30pm, during which time numerous roads will be affected by road closures, diversions and traffic delays around the course.  Whilst the above times are those for the race itself, during the period 3.00pm on Saturday May 14th to 6.00pm on Sunday, May 15th diversions and parking restrictions will be encountered.

The Women’s race will start from Castle Square at 9am and complete eight laps of the circuit to finish at around 12.00 pm. The Lincoln Grand Prix event will start at 12.30 am and 13 laps of the Grand Prix circuit to finish at around 4.15 pm.

The circuit will be policed and marshalled as usual and every assistance will be given to provide access when it is safe to do so but extra travel time should be allowed for.

Your particular attention is drawn to the road closures which are in operation for the duration of the race affecting the entire circuit which includes Yarborough Crescent, Yarborough Road, Burton Road (North), The Avenue, Long Leys Road, West Parade, Motherby Lane, Hungate, Michaelgate, Wordsworth Street, Drury Lane (part), Castle Hill, Bailgate, Exchequergate, Minster Yard, Eastgate and Newport. These road closures will provide for emergency access to be maintained. Burton Village will also be affected by closures with Fen Lane closed to traffic. The A57 will be closed with diversions via the A46 by pass and the B1198 Doddington Road but access will be maintained for Long Leys Road Residents. Motorists who are wishing to travel north to south through the City Centre are advised to do so via Lindum Road or Monks Road to Wragby Road or Nettleham Road and vice versa. The Lincoln A46 by-pass is unaffected by the closures and should be used wherever possible. 

The organisers are anxious that the event is as safe as possible for all concerned. This letter is being delivered to properties on the race route so that prior notice of this event is given and to request that all vehicles which would normally be parked on the roadway on Sunday 15th May be parked either off the road entirely or parked in a nearby street not affected by the cycle race.  Parking restrictions will apply in some areas from 3pm on Saturday, May 14th.

Vehicles parked in a permanent or temporary no parking area or in a hazardous position will present a danger to the competitors and your your co-operation on this important safety issue is requested.

The event has again been voted as the country’s favourite one day race both by the riders and the public and has been advertised nationally. Whilst the race is in progress a considerable number of spectators can be expected at many locations along the route.  Your tolerance of any inconvenience caused will be appreciated.  There will again be Eurosport television coverage of the event bringing welcome publicity to the City and County.

I do know that many of you enjoy the main races and once again there will be some children's cycling events at 9.30 am on Sunday for young riders on a small circuit around Exchequergate, Eastgate and Minster Yard.
